Green Garden Cafe will be 3 years old on June 14th 2011

We will be holding a birthday bash at St Mary Magdalen Church, Sir Thomas White Road, Chapelfields, Coventry, CV5 8DT on June 11th from 10-2pm. Everyone is welcome (please feel free to bring some food to share) and it will be a good opportunity to discuss vegan education/campaigning. The birthday bash will take place alongside the normal Saturday cafe that takes place at St Mary Magdalen once a month. If anyone would like to have a free information table at the event please let us know.
Green Garden Cafe is a social enterprise not for profit vegan enterprise and was set up by 3 active vegans. There is only one paid member of staff who receives a p/t wage.
Happy Birthday

Throughout the 3 years GGC have:
  • Set up 3 local not for profit vegan community cafes (we plan on creating a DIY booklet to help people set up local vegan community cafes)
  • Designed and run local educational food programmes for all ages that include basic cooking skills, and eating healthy vegan food on a low budget. These courses are also certificated. We also apply for public funding to fund some of these courses.
  • Worked with young people
  • Set up a local community vegan allotment
  • Provided a local catering service for any event
  • Joined up with Fairfoods to cater at larger festivals
  • Worked with MVC (Midland vegan campaigns)
  • Catered fundraisers and campaigns
  • Set up the Coventry Green Fayre with the help of people from the local community. GGC highlighted the importance of the fayre having a vegan/fairtrade/sustainable ethos. This is know part of the fayres formal constitution. This year's green fayre takes place on Saturday June 25th. (
  • GGC and Fairfoods also join forces yearly to organise free vegan food fairs across the Midlands and South-West, the last fair was in Coventry and over 500 people came through the doors.
  • Received the greenest caterer award at the 2010 Leamington Peace Festival.
We would like to say thanks to Clare and Paul from Fairfoods (, Veggies (, Midland Vegan Campaigns (www.veganmidlands,, Kevin White and Cathy's Mum for all their help and support.

Positive Feedback!
Always fantastic to get great feedback...
stamp Hi folks

I wanted to tell you how well thought of you were at the conference this last Saturday. I wanted to tell you that I only managed to grab one bowl of lovely tomato soup and the very, very last veggie burger, as I was rushed off my feet at front of house, and finally I wanted to know if you'd lost a "The Witches Brew" cup? I've got that with me now, and if it was special to someone there I'll post it to you. Otherwise I'll call it a win and drink your health, as I'm sure it must be one of yours.

Comment after comment came back to me, and they're coming back still, as to how yummy the food was. The demand lead to a few queues as you know, but the main feedback was that the food was well cooked, well presented, and good value. We aren't all vegans - not even all vegetarians - but everyone enjoyed what you had to offer. Thank you.

I know we were unable to tell you how many folk were likely to come. That was because we'd never done such an event before. In the end I think we ate you out of everything you bought - which is great because I'd have hated to see food wasted. I don't know how much more you could have sold, but I hope you feel the day was worth it. If we ever do such an event in the area again, be very sure we'll be seeking your catering input. Feel free to use this email in any way you choose - we're very happy with Green Garden Cafe.

Coventry Green Fayre Enjoys Successful Debut

COVENTRY Green Fayre could become an annual event after organisers celebrated a successful debut.

Despite rainy weather, Saturday's celebration of the greener side of city life drew visitors from Coventry and further afield to War Memorial Park.

And the team who volunteered to throw the grassroots event says a flood of positive feedback means they are already looking ahead to next year's green fayre.
